ROBERTO HENRIQUEZ - BÍO BÍO VALLEY
Roberto is a trained agronomist who has made wine for commercial wineries in Chile, South Africa and Canada before turning the natural way after working with small growers in Southern Chile and in France. Inspired by his ancestors and driven to support traditional growers, Roberto has returned to his homeland of Concepción, deep in the Old South. He crafts wines true to history, they are as political as they are pure. He is currently in the process of building his own winery and has taken over a 200 year-old vineyard of País. He works with a handful of old growers, paying them prices for their grapes that allow them to stay on their land. His goal is to reinvigorate the people’s love for Pipeño as and for the local community, encouraging young winemakers to return to the country. We are very proud to have to Roberto hit our shores for the first time in 2017!
2016 NOTRO BLANCO (MOSCATEL, CORINTO, SEMILLON) - NEW RELEASE!
Equal parts Moscatel de Alejandría, Corinto and Semillon from the coastal zone of the Itata Valley. Very red, very sandy granite soils. The vines are all around 60 years old and tended by two different families. Agriculture is traditional, without herbicides or pesticides, just an annual handful of mineral sulphur powder to protect from powdery mildew. Due to the maritime influence, the vines are kept low to the ground and they are low yielding due to the strong winds. Separate ferments in stainless steel, one daily pigeage during primary ferment, which lasted for three weeks, and the juice was left on skins for three months after which the wines were blended and left over winter before one careful racking. 20ppm at bottling only. Unfined and unfiltered.
